Christmas Card 2023

Designing an annual Christmas card is a cherished tradition that has been a part of my festive preparations since 2014. It’s a lot of fun coming up with a theme. Often, it represents some aspect of the year, or it’s inspired by a friend’s suggestion.

This year, I have returned to Wonderland. I’ve drawn a fantastical Alice In Wonderland Christmas card before, but this year’s design is much more influenced by Sir John Tenniel’s style of illustration. If you’ve been following my Instagram you’ll have seen my drawing experiments featuring Alice. Also, because it was a Coronation year in the UK, I just had to get a crown in there.

Nespresso Vertuo capsule art

What are those unusual Christmas tree decorations? All year, I’ve had something in the back of my mind about using Nespresso Vertuo coffee capsules in a creative project. So, I’ve been collecting them. With Christmas on the horizon, it struck me that the capsules’ sumptuous colours and lustre made them ideal Christmas decorations.

I’ve tried some variations where I’ve fixed two capsules together to form ‘baubles’, but mainly, I love the simplicity of the crushed capsules. I flatten them into discs, glue them on badge backs (which are the perfect diameter), and string them with fishing wire.

So, I’m all set for Christmas. Wishing you a wonderful festive holiday. I’m so grateful for all the support for my art, as it evolves into multi-media and cross-channel creative projects.

Let’s see what 2024 brings✨️
